Our leadership camps, take students on a journey of self-discovery as students learn about themselves and how to effectively interact with others.
The Leadership program at the Runaway Bay Sport and Leadership Excellence Centre is based on curriculum within the ‘Character Strengths’ framework. The content within this framework has been drawn from and aligned to the four element that fall under the ‘Personal and Social Capabilities’ space of the
Australian Curriculum (PDF, 127KB).
A camp experience begins with students being introduced to the
6 character strengths (PDF, 1.2MB) to enhance their understanding of what they are. Students then have the opportunity to reflect on their values and behaviours to identify one or 2 character strength that resonate with them.
By understanding these values and establishing a greater depth of self-awareness, students will work on building their confidence to utilise their character strengths in a range of different activities that challenge them in group settings and aim to take them out of their comfort zone.
The strength(s) each student adopts becomes a focal point for their camp journey and each activity represents an opportunity for them to utilise and develop their strength(s) in a challenge-based format to add value to the teams that they are apart of.
The goal of this process is to help students enhance their awareness of themselves through identifying their unique personal abilities, qualities and strengths. The program that students participate in will offer an environment that allows them to ‘test’ their strengths, while instilling confidence in their ability as they further develop these strengths through reflective practice.
